Anti Ragging Movement

 
 

Ragging is a punishable offense and any student found indulge in ragging inside or outside of the campus will be punished as per UGC guidelines following Supreme Court directives.

Punishment

At The Institution Level:
Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offense as established by the Anti Ragging Committee of the Institution, the possible punishments for those found guilty of ragging at the institution level shall be any one or any combination of the following:

  • Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges
  • Withholding / withdrawing scholarship / fellowship and other benefits
  • Forfeiting campus placement opportunities / recommendations
  • Debarring from appearing in any test/examination or other evaluation process
  • Withholding of results
  • Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international  meet, tournament, youth festival, etc.
  • Suspension/ expulsion from the hostel
  • Cancellation of admission
  • Rustication from the institution for a period, ranging from 1 to 4 semesters
  • Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for a specific period
  • Fine to be paid
  • Collective punishment: When the persons committing or abetting the crime of ragging are not identified, the institution shall resort to collective punishment as a deterrent to ensure community pressure on the potential raggers.

Anti Sexual Harassment cell/ ICC

At J.P. College, as per the guidelines of UGC, NAAC and the Supreme Court, an Anti Sexual Harassment Cell has been established to provide a healthy and safe atmosphere to the staffs and students of the College. The cell was constituted to meet the four basic objectives:

·         To develop the guidelines and norms for a policy against sexual harassment.

·         To develop principles and procedures for combating sexual harassment.

·         To work out details for the implementation of the policy.

·         To prepare a detailed plan of action, both short and long term.

THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS OF THE CELL SHALL HAVE THE FOLLOWING FUNCTIONS, POWERS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Promote measures aimed at achieving gender equality, removal of gender bias or discrimination, sexual harassment and other acts of gender based violence;

·         Organize awareness programmes and campaigns for the benefit of all members of the College on sexual harassment and gender based discrimination;

·         Fulfill the directives of and guidelines issued by the Supreme Court to create an academic and work environment that is free of sexual harassment or gender-based discrimination;

·         Receive and redress complaints received from any member of the College (including students, staff and outsiders on College premises)alleging sexual harassment by another member(s) of the College;

·         Take immediate cognizance of any act of sexual harassment or gender-based discrimination on the College campus and/or facilities and to take further action in this regard;

·         Conduct formal inquiry and investigate and take decisions upon each complaint and recommend appropriate punishment or action to be taken, by the appropriate authority, in each instance;

·         Engage the services of a professional or other expert in the course of performing its functions;

·         Ensure that all information pertaining either to complaints registered and the proceedings and findings of any inquiries and/or investigations are kept strictly confidential;

HOW MATTERS ARE DECIDED:

1.      All decisions shall be taken by a simple majority.

2.      In the event of any conflict the matter shall be referred to the Principal whose decision on the matter shall be final.

MINUTES OF MEETINGS:

1.      The Coordinator of the Committee shall be responsible to prepare the minutes of the meeting.

2.      Every resolution passed by the Committee should be recorded at the meeting and read out by the Coordinator at the meeting itself.

3.      Within Seven days after the date of the meeting the Secretary of the Committee shall send a copy of the minutes, as approved by the Chairperson of the meeting, to the Chairperson of the Constituting Authority and to all the Members of the Committee.

 

RECORD KEEPING:

The Committee maintains all the minutes and other relevant documents related to the functioning of the committee and shall make these available to any authorized officer/authority for inspection.
